Fire Safety Tips
Install and maintain smoke detectors on each level of your house and outside each sleeping area. Why? If you have people sleeping in the living room, install a smoke detector in the living room. Regardless of where your family sleeps, when a fire starts, you want a smoke alarm to wake you up. In kitchens, use a smoke detector with an external reset button and consider installing it just slightly out of range of normal cooking smoke. It's better to have a fully functional smoke detector with a reset button, than pulling the battery out of a smoke detector that is frequently sensing normal smoke and then not having it functional in case of a fire. The same applies to bathrooms where steam can set off a smoke alarm: Consider having the smoke detector on the ceiling just outside the bathroom door. Also, change smoke detector batteries every six months or whenever you move your clocks forward or backward in the spring and fall. Other Fire Safety Information: Smoke Detectors
